The first in our series of THE BEATLES PROJECT tackling the complete set of Beatles studio LP’s – With either covers, originals or alternative versions, & we thought we’d start at the beginning… One, two, three, four! So it begins. Please Please Me was released on 22nd March 1963, and the world would never be the same again. An aural snapshot of their live act permanently etched into plastic, it chucked together a show-tune, r’n’b, and, unlike their southern rivals, these boys were Hamburg-hardened enough not to shirk from displaying their feminine side with, count ’em, no fewer than three examples of Brill Building pop. No wonder the girls loved ‘em so much. Oh, and unprecedentedly, over half its contents were self-composed. The opening brace of tracks became the earliest Lennon & McCartney covers with Kenny Lynch & then Duffy Power (backed by the Graham Bond Organisation) first out of the blocks. Then, of course, apres ceux, le deluge….. 1 The Graham Bond Organisation With Duffy Power- I Saw Her Standing There 2 Kenny Lynch-Misery 3 George Martin-Anna 4 The Cookies-Chains 5 The Flamin’ Groovies-Boys 6 Les Lionceaux- Je Suis Fou (Ask Me Why) 7 The Score- Please Please Me 8 Sandie Shaw- Love Me Do 9 Keeley Smith- P.S I Love You 10 Johnny Thunders & Patti Palladin- Baby It’s You 11Count Basie- Do You Want To Know A Secret 12 Herb Alpert & The Tijuanna Brass- A Taste Of Honey 13 Richard, Keith & Aranbee Pop Orchestra- There’s A Place 14 Top Notes- Twist And Shout
