The Beautiful Unfolding

from What Is Really Going On · host Science Guided By Faith

There is a specific, heavy kind of exhaustion that comes from carrying “old fear” into new seasons. We often move through our days feeling perpetually unfinished, as if we are waiting for a single, lightning-bolt moment of clarity to finally “fix” us. We carry questions that feel too heavy to hold, wondering if we will ever reach a version of ourselves that feels complete. But as I’ve been reflecting on the song I created above, I’m reminded that transformation is rarely a sudden arrival. Instead, it is a continuous, often quiet process of being “remade.” Through the lens of what the Bible describes as “infinite grace,” we discover that being a work in progress isn’t a failure of character—it is the very place where we are most deeply known. Belief Often Starts Before the Evidence In our modern world, we are conditioned to demand a map before we start the car. We want proof, data, and a clear view of the destination before we commit our hearts to anything. Yet, the spiritual journey often begins with a counter-intuitive internal shift—a “turning” that happens in the dark. We find ourselves responding to a voice before we can even put a name to the speaker. “I never saw Your face, yet something in me turned / I heard Your voice speak through pages I had never read.” There is a beautiful mystery in these “pages I had never read” (the Bible). It suggests that the Divine is reaching out to us long before we’ve done the homework or mastered any tradition. It is a “blind” beginning that challenges our “see it to believe it” mindset. We often wait to feel ready or fully informed, but as I have tried to express in this song, the heart often turns toward home before the eyes ever see the destination. Belief, in its purest form, is a response to a love that was already there, reaching out through the silence. Freedom is the Starting Point, Not the Destination We tend to think of being “set free” from our fears as the end of the story, or the “happily ever after” where the credits roll. But the process of being remade suggests that this initial liberation is actually just the catalyst. While there is immediate relief when our spirits are set free from the things that haunt us, the most profound work happens in the years that follow. “You didn’t stop at setting me free from what I feared / You started shaping something deeper through the years.” This shaping happens in what can be referred to as “hard and holy moments.” It is a vital paradox: a moment can be grueling and sacred at the exact same time. The “remaking” isn’t what happens after we survive the struggle; it is the shaping that occurs within it. We are not just escaping our past; we are allowing our freedom to become the foundation for a character built over time. It is a slow, multi-year unfolding that requires us to stay present even when the work feels tedious. Presence is Independent of Feeling If the remaking happens over years, we must inevitably face the seasons when the “old fear” tries to rise again. We all know those nights when life grows heavy and questions feel like lead in our chests. It is in these moments that we encounter the most grounding truth of all: Presence does not require our emotional cooperation. There is a fierce, active nature to this grace. Trust in what can be accurately characterized as a love that was “there before me, tearing fear apart.” This isn’t a passive sentiment; it is a protective, persistent force that stands between us and the darkness. It is a trustworthy and reliable love that can only come from God. Even when we “cannot feel You near,” the reality of a love we can’t explain remains an anchor. We are often led to believe that if we don’t feel spiritual or “fixed,” then the work has stopped. But the Spirit lives in us regardless of our emotional fluctuations. This provides a necessary stability when the darkness presses against the heart—a reminder that we are held by a love that does not rely on our ability to sense it. Growth is Learning How to Rest Perhaps the most surprising truth about being remade is that the ultimate goal is not perfection, nor is it finally finding our own hidden well of strength. In a culture obsessed with self-improvement and “getting it right,” the idea that the culmination of growth is “learning how to rest” feels almost radical. “Not because I finally got it right or found my strength / But because You loved me first and called me as Your own.” Resting is not a passive act; it is an active, learned response to being remade. It is the intentional choice to stop performing and start belonging. We spend so much energy trying to prove our worth or find the strength to carry ourselves, but true transformation leads us back to the simplicity of being “loved first.” We find rest not because we have reached the finish line, but because we are claimed by a love that will not let us go. Being “remade” is an ongoing, grace-filled journey. It is the quiet confidence that even when we feel unfinished, we are being shaped by a hand that is both steady and kind. There is immense value in simply acknowledging that we are a work in progress, held in an infinite grace that began before we knew how to ask for it. Question: In what ways is your own life currently being remade, and are you willing to rest in the process? 🙏❤️🙏 This is a public episode.
