The Beauty of God Being God

from Grand Parkway Baptist Church · host Neil McClendon

John 6:60-71 1. God is always capable of more than we can understand, v. 60-62 -Job 38:1-3 2. God controls the salvation process, v. 63-65 -Romans 9:6-18 When you embrace this simple truth it does two things: a) leaves you with a deep sense of gratitude towards God b) informs how you pray for the unconverted 3. There is always room for progress in and towards what we believe, v. 66-71 “we have believed and have come to know” Questions from the Congregation 1. Do we have free will? Can we say no to God once He has revealed himself? Adam and Eve first had revelation of God and even daily intimacy with Him. Then they chose to eat of the Tree. If we do not have free will after God's revelation, how did Adam and Eve have it? 2. If God draws us to Himself, why does he need us to proclaim Him? Or put another way, if we don't proclaim Him to someone, will that person lose heaven because we didn't do our job? 3. On different occasions in this chapter Jesus refers to “the last day." Is that a reference to Judgement day? The reference to us being raised up seems to imply we are somewhere different prior to being raised up than we are after being raised up? Can you clarify? 4. When Jesus talks about eating his body and drinking blood is this a reference to Communion? Is there another metaphorical meaning? 5. My question from John 6 is about the “age of accountability” idea that many churches teach. I think the teaching says basically that if a child dies before reaching an age where they can accept Christ, they go to heaven anyway because God has mercy and the children are not held accountable. But Jesus says that God gives people to him, and that we are unable to come otherwise so what about the young, the mentally incapable, the native person in the unreached people group that will never hear of Christ?
