The Bee-Man of Orn 🐝 | Fairytale for Sleep by Frank R. Stockton

from Chapter and Pillow: Where Stories Drift Into Sleep · host Kathleen

Tonight on Chapter & Pillow, I am reading Frank R. Stockton’s whimsical 1887 short story, The Bee-Man of Orn.  The story takes place in a ancient country, where we meet a simple old man who spends his entire life living inside a tiny hut surrounded by swarms of bees. He is completely content with his quiet existence until a passing junior sorcerer informs him that he has actually been transformed from something else entirely. Curious about his true identity, the Bee-Man sets out on a gentle journey to discover what he used to be. This soft, ad-free narration features slow pacing to help you quiet your thoughts, let go of the day, and drift off naturally.Behind the Story: When this book was published, it featured beautiful drawings by the famous illustrator Maxfield Parrish. Stockton loved the artwork, but he playfully complained that Parrish made the bees look about the size of small chickens. :)Send us Fan MailSupport the show🌙 Thank you for listening to Chapter & Pillow: Where Stories Drift into Sleep.
