The Bermuda Triangle is a region of the western Atlantic Ocean bounded by Miami (Florida), Bermuda, and Puerto Rico. The area gained its reputation through reports of unexplained disappearances of ships and aircraft. The myth of the triangle emerged in the 1950s and was popularized by books and articles during the 1970s. Many theories have been proposed, ranging from natural phenomena such as underwater gas releases and rogue waves to speculation about Atlantis, time portals, and UFOs.
