View the original presentation at https://youtu.be/5XNKnaTBFFA. Which semiconductor ETF is the best? We start with a list of 10 semiconductor ETFs and remove those that use leverage or those with excessive expense ratios. We're then left with four names - SOXX, SMH, XSD, and SOXQ. The next step is to look at the mechanics of each underlying index. For the VanEck Semiconductor ETF, they're the most concentrated because they let their winners ride up to 20%. They also look for heavy pure-play bets. The iShares Semiconductor ETF lets their winners run, but rebalances the top five to 8% each and then the rest not to exceed 4%. Finally, there's the SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF which just uses simple GICS classifications and equal weights them. You're reading this because you hope we'll tell you the best one. Uh-uh. You got to watch the video mate. Several of our MBAs passed on Thirsty Thursday just to put out this quality piece and you'll hurt their feelings if you don't watch it.
