The Bible never uses the word "discipleship"?!

Q: A friend of mine and I were talking about discipleship. She said that the scripture never uses the word. The only mention is as a noun: disciples. She said that churches don’t really need to disciple Christians because we can read the Bible and God will guide us on our own. Can you talk about this?
