FREE Devotional and more in the Show Notes! “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” — Matthew 11:28–30 If you’re a mom, exhaustion can easily become your normal. Not just the physical tiredness from long days and sleepless nights—but the deeper kind of weary that settles into your bones. The kind where you wake up already thinking about everything that needs to be done. The invisible mental load. The pressure to keep everything running smoothly for everyone else. And sometimes, we even feel guilty for being tired. We tell ourselves we should be stronger, more organized, more capable. But Jesus never speaks to weary people with shame. He speaks to them with invitation. “Come to Me… and I will give you rest.” In this episode of the Rooted Woman Podcast, we’re talking about the biblical importance of rest and why it matters so much for our faith, our motherhood, and our emotional and spiritual health. Rest in Scripture isn’t just about naps or days off—though those can certainly help. Biblical rest is deeper than that. It’s a posture of trust. It’s choosing to stop striving long enough to remember that God is God and we are not. In a culture that celebrates constant productivity and hustle—even in motherhood—rest can feel almost rebellious. We feel pressure to keep everything perfect: the house, the schedule, the meals, the routines, the relationships, the ministry, the personal growth. But God never asked you to carry all of that alone. When Jesus invites us to take His yoke upon us, He’s using an image of two animals connected together to carry a load. In other words, He’s saying you don’t have to carry the weight of your life by yourself. He’s inviting you to walk beside Him and let Him share the burden. And the beautiful part? He describes Himself as gentle and humble in heart. That means when you come to Him exhausted, overwhelmed, or stretched thin, He doesn’t respond with frustration. He meets you with kindness, patience, and grace. In this episode, we talk about what it looks like to slow down spiritually, emotionally, and practically—and how learning God’s pace can transform the way we live and mother. ✨ In this episode, we talk about: • Why so many moms live in a constant state of exhaustion • What biblical rest really means beyond physical sleep • How hustle culture has quietly entered motherhood • Why rest is an act of trust and worship • The invitation Jesus offers to carry life’s burdens with Him • Practical ways to begin creating rhythms of rest in everyday life We also talk honestly about something many women experience but rarely discuss: how rest can feel difficult after trauma or long seasons of survival. If slowing down feels uncomfortable or even overwhelming, you’re not alone—and Jesus meets you there too. Rest isn’t selfish. It’s stewardship. When you care for your soul, you’re able to show up for your family from a healthier, more peaceful place. Your children don’t need a mom who is constantly running on empty—they need a mom who knows where to bring her burdens. Because the rest your heart is craving isn’t found in getting everything done. It’s found in being with the One who holds your life together. 🌿 Connect with me: Instagram: @iamsarahwalston Facebook: Sarah Walston 🎧 Listen to the Rooted Woman Podcast on: Apple Podcasts Spotify Amazon Music YouTube iHeartRadio …and other major listening platforms. ⭐ If this episode encouraged you: Share it with a friend who might need hope today.
