The Bishop's Wife (1947) — "Sometimes, Henry, angels must rush in where fools fear to tread."
from The Kulturecast Hosted by Weirding Way Media
Some prayers get answered in ways nobody asked for. In The Bishop's Wife (1947), David Niven's Bishop Henry Brougham is so consumed with raising money for a new cathedral that he's losing sight of his parish and his marriage, so heaven sends help in the form of Dudley, an impossibly suave angel played by Cary Grant, who seems to have rather more time for Loretta Young's Julia, the bishop's wife. Directed by Henry Koster, with Monty Woolley as the bishop's old professor friend, it's a Best Picture nominee and a holiday perennial that was later remade as The Preacher's Wife. Chris Stachiw, the Doctor of Podcasting, talks Cary Grant, Loretta Young, David Niven, and so much more.
