THE BLACKENING (2022) Movie Reaction | First Time Watch | Grace Byers, Jermaine Fowler, Melvin Gregg

Jaby & Michael react to The Blackening (2022), a horror-comedy that follows a group of friends who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway—only to find themselves trapped in a cabin with a killer forcing them into a twisted, self-aware game built around horror tropes. Blending satire, suspense, and comedy, the film plays with genre expectations while delivering both laughs and tension. This reaction stands out for its mix of sharp humor, social commentary, and horror setups, as Jaby & Michael experience the film’s unpredictable turns, comedic timing, and escalating stakes in real time. Directed by Tim Story (Ride Along, Barbershop, Fantastic Four, Think Like a Man, Shaft), the film stars Grace Byers (Empire, Harlem, Bent, The Gifted, Boomerang), Jermaine Fowler (Coming 2 America, Sorry to Bother You, Rick and Morty, Superior Donuts, Judas and the Black Messiah), Melvin Gregg (Snowfall, American Vandal, The Way Back, Nine Days, Freakish), X Mayo (The Daily Show, American Auto, Strangers, The Blackening comedy work, internet comedy sketches), and Dewayne Perkins (The Amber Ruffin Show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Break with Michelle Wolf, Saved by the Bell, comedy writing projects), bringing together a cast rooted in comedy, TV hits, and modern genre storytelling that continues to drive strong reaction and discussion-based audience appeal. ___________________________________________________ We've got merch!
