Episode 177 is in conversation with Gerard McKenzie-Govan, founder of The Blankfaces- the UK's first fashion label committed to ending homelessness. Inspired by his mother’s compassion for helping others, motivated by his children, volunteering at a homeless shelter in Glasgow sparked an idea to utilise his experience in fashion retail to both tackle the issue and raise awareness. With every design inspired or created by someone experiencing homeslessness, a percentage of each product sold is given back to the person who shared their story. Teaming up with colleges, universities and charities, The Blankfaces aims to amplify the voices of those who are homeless, whilst challenging the issues, stigmas and misconceptions surrounding what it means to have no fixed abode. With two stores in Glasgow and a variety of ongoing collaborations and projects, Gerard’s passion and dedication to the cause is both hugely inspiring and exemplary.
