The Bloomer Report: Slam Poetry

The Bloomer Report is hosted by Ben Loomer and showcases conversations with teachers working in English Schools across Quebec. Featured educators are leading projects that engage their students and their results need to be shared widely. The hope is that others will be inspired to replicate these projects in their own school and community.   A conversation with Maria Raskin, an English Language Arts teacher from Marymount Academy (EMSB) takes us through her spoken word unit that she brings to every class she enters.  Starting with an introduction and culminating in performance, student engagement is a key feature of this genre.  Maria’s efforts let students dive into the writing process and the project lets their creativity shine.
