The Blue Angel (Episode 132) - Hot Date with Dan and Vicky

Director Josef von Sternberg was lured back to Eastern Europe from Hollywood in 1930 by producer Erich Pommer to direct a film about mad Russian monk and con man Rasputin.  Sternberg set his sights instead on an adaptation of the novel Professor Unrath by Heinrich Mann.  He cast Oscar winner Emil Jannings in the title role and discovered his leading lady, Marlene Dietrich, singing in a local Berlin club, was instantly taken by her and offered her the role.   Dan and Vicky discuss this classic of early German sound cinema along with alot of recently seen film and TV including Mare of Easttown, Spectrum's The Bite, Werewolves Within, Marvel's Black Widow, Wrong Turn 2020, and Iran's A Separation.   In a special segment, our hosts also wax nostalgic about the cinemas they frequented as young movie fans.
