The Bottom Line that Really Matters 7 - Saved: from what? by what? and for whom? - John 1:1-18
from Toronto Alliance Church · host Toronto Alliance Church
This summer we are doing a series called the Bottom Line that Matters, walking through our statement of faith. This morning, we'll talk about salvation. The point is that the ideas of salvation matters and has traction. I listen to a podcast where the host is a professor who's read a lot of Russian literature. He made an interesting comment, that Russian writers of past - Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Chekhov - pushed their ideas so that the characters in the novels actually follow where the ideas lead and live them out, to the point of it becoming a radical thing. Because of this, some Russian works become explosive. In contrast, George Elliott in the novel Middle March said that the good thing about Englishmen is that they have the most radical ideas and yet they come out unscorched. When it comes to living their big ideas out, they pull back and don't want to follow them to the end. When it comes to salvation, we want to be like the Russian authors and get scorched, be imprinted, changed by the things we believe, because they are truth. Preacher: Andrew Hubbard Extra reading: Proverbs 8:22-36
