The Bottom Line that Really Matters 9 - A people devoted to what, exactly? - Acts 2:41-47

from Toronto Alliance Church · host Toronto Alliance Church

This is the 2nd last sermon in the series "The Bottom Line that Really Matters" where we are going through our denomination's statement of faith point by point, to be renewed and refreshed in the things that we affirm as true and really hold to and care about. I was reading a book by Dallas Willard called The Divine Conspiracy. In it, he talks about how ideas have effects that are not always immediate, that world events ride upon the waters of ideas. He says, "The killing fields of Cambodia came from philosophical discussions in Paris," and, "Despite what we say we believe, we always live up to our true beliefs." What we believe ends up working itself out in the ways we act. We want to align our actions with truths that really matter. So we come to this section called Ecclesiology, i.e. the doctrine of the Church. I titled this sermon "A People Devoted to What, Exactly?" The word "devoted" comes out of our passage in Acts 2. Extra reading: Exodus 19:3-6 Preacher: Andrew Hubbard
