The boy and the stone by Kai-Anne Clews

from Original Christian Poetry · host Kai-Anne Clews

A boy and his father walked a road, And came to a boulder smooth and old. The boy said “Father do you see that rock? Do you think I am strong enough to pick it up?” The father said “Yes, if you use all your might, Then I know you will get it right.” The boy tried and tried and then he cried “Oh my father why have you lied?” The father smiled kindly at his son, And the lesson thus begun: “I said if you used all your might, That you’d not fail to get it right – But, You did not apply all your strength to the stone. Oh my son, you tried to lift it alone. You did not make use of all your strength you see, Oh my beloved son, you didn’t ask me.”
