The Bracero Program

Welcome to the newest episode of "Preserving History and Democracy!" This segment features special guests Patsy Garcia, our NMSU intern, and Benjamin Segovia, the son of Pabla and Ruben, who took part in the Bracero Program at Stahmann Farms. We kick off by discussing the pecan industry in New Mexico and its journey to Doña Ana County. Next, we introduce Benjamin Segovia, who grew up on the farm with his ten siblings. Benjamin shares anecdotes about farm life and its impact on his life today. Lastly, we contemplate the program's significance and it's lasting impact on the families involved.
