The Brave Girl Who Was Never Alone | Come Follow Me Bedtime Story | Esther
from Come Follow Me Meditations · host Pondereth
A gentle bedtime story about a girl who was loved, and cared for, and never left by herself. A Come Follow Me bedtime story for August 3–9, “Thou Art Come . . . For Such a Time as This” (Esther, with Esther and Mordecai). Tonight we visit a quiet city called Shushan, with little houses and flat roofs and lamps being lit in the windows. In one of those houses lives a girl named Hadassah — her name means myrtle, a small tree with soft green leaves and tiny white flowers — who later would be called Esther. When she was very small she lost her mother and her father, but she was not left alone: her cousin Mordecai brought her home and raised her as his own daughter. He made her a bed, he made her dinner, and he taught her about God. Years later, when her people needed help and Esther had to be brave, she did not have to be brave by herself. A whole city fasted and prayed with her for three days, and when she finally stood in the doorway of the king’s room, the king looked up and smiled and held out his golden sceptre — his way of saying, come in, you are welcome here. This story is written for children about 5 to 8, and it is gentle all the way through. Play it as your little ones settle into bed and let them fall asleep knowing that being brave never means being alone. Scriptures: Esther Come, Follow Me lesson: “Thou Art Come . . .
