Ep 20 · The Brave Small Thing

from Shiloh Creek

The Mudpuppies — Splish, Splash, and Splosh — have never led an adventure before. So when a kind little errand sends the three tiny frogs out of their cozy pond all the way to the big old barn at dusk, they do what small-and-scared folks often do: they puff up LOUD and pretend they're not frightened at all ("we're barn experts — we've never been inside, which is HOW we know so much!"). But bravado runs out at the dark doorway, and Splish finally says the true thing: "I've been scared the whole time." Together — naming the fear, trusting God is right there with them — they do the brave thing anyway, and find the dark was warm and kind all along. A gentle story about real courage: not pretending you're not scared, but saying so and going anyway, with a friend. Anchored in a line a young shepherd named David — who became a king — wrote in the Bible when he was truly afraid, in the book of Psalms: what time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. With Professor Hoot's Totally True Facts on the tiny Arctic tern that flies the longest journey on Earth. For kids ages 4-12. Stories of courage and kindness from Old Timber and the friends at Shiloh Creek.
