The Bridge of Peace in Drogheda to be Renamed to the Saint Oliver Plunkett Bridge of Peace - 07/10/2025

We were joined on The Agenda this morning by Independent Councillor in Drogheda, Kevin Callan, who put a motion forward at the Borough District’s monthly meeting in relation to renaming The Bridge of Peace in Drogheda to the Saint Oliver Plunkett Bridge of Peace.The bridge of Peace was built as part of an inner bypass of the town in the 1970’s. Drogheda has a very long tradition and a proud connection with Saint Oliver who built a school in the town during the Penal Laws where he provided education for both Catholics and ProtestantsCouncillor Callan says he was delighted to be able to make the proposal in the 400th year of his birth and the 50th anniversary of his being made a saint.Councillor Callan told us more about this.
