The Broken Bottle That Made Me | Hesh Fernando

from Young Blood - Men’s Mental Health · host Cal MacPherson

Hesh Fernando is the founder of Melbourne start-up 'The Model Man' - a business dedicated to improving the lives of businessmen and doing something about the corporate world's traditional lack of regard for men's mental health. Hesh runs 'The Model Man' alongside his dad; and interestingly, the difficult relationship he had with his father throughout his young life has played a big role in bringing them together on this journey now. As a kid, Hesh was full of rage brought on by experiencing his dad mistreat him and his mother; and being powerless to stop it. Because of this, He grew up putting pressure on himself to try to fix problems that weren't his to fix, a trait that ultimately led to him getting bottled and put in hospital. Hesh deeply believes he's found his purpose in working with men and seeking to bring about organisational change. He's evolved in many ways as an individual since hitting rock bottom in his early twenties, but it's the total reversal of his relationship with his Dad that's even more inspiring.
