The Burnout Epidemic Hospitals Need to Address Now

from FIND YOUR FLOW with Lisa Roche · host Notes from Nagare Life

**Trigger Warning: discussion about suicide and suicidal ideationDo you suffer from "fatigue" and exhaustion, feeling like your cup is never full? This episode addresses "what is burnout" and its various "burnout symptoms," emphasizing that it's not a personal failing. We discuss effective "stress management" techniques and pathways to "burnout recovery," guiding you on "how to recover from burnout" to achieve greater "wellness."Burnout is something we ALL suffer from...but remember COVID? It was a time that really highlighted the shortcomings in a lot of our systems and our medical care system was definitely one of them. Long after the cheers and celebrations of our medical heroes have ended, what a lot of people are experiencing is a push for a new way of working, caring, and interacting in our doctors' offices and hospitals.A phrase that stood out for me in this conversation is ADMINISTRATIVE HARM.I think a lot of us can understand that a medical system that prioritizes profit and loss statements over care is a problem. We, as patients, pay a lot of money for our health care and more often than not, spend minutes with our care providers, are limited by insurance approvals, and feel unseen, unheard, and disregarded in our health care. And who is caught in the middle of profit and care? Our medical professionals. Those men and women who follow the calling to help others are restrained by rules and regulations, while their hearts just want to help. Their skills hobbled by limited resources. And yet, they are on the front line of patient reactions…burning out.How can all of that change? Well, join me as I dive into this and a broader conversation on burnout and how to make changes in our own lives with my guest, Tricia Vinatieri.About TRICIA VINATIERIBurnout in healthcare isn't just a problem—it's an epidemic. The World Health Organization has officially classified it as an occupational syndrome, and it's not only draining healthcare systems of billions in revenue, but more importantly, the dedicated humans who make medicine possible. Dr. Vinatieri knows this firsthand. Her own experience with burnout led her to become a Chief Well-Being Officer—a strategist and advocate for the clinical staff on the front lines. As a CWO and organizational development psychologist for a large Level 1A healthcare system, she has learned what drives burnout (Spoiler alert: it’s not lack of resilience and self-care!) and how to mitigate it. She now shares these key lessons with healthcare leaders to help them create a culture of thriving in their own organizations.Followhttps://www.cliniciancareconsulting.com/https://www.linkedin.com/in/drtrishavinatieri/RESOURCEShttps://drlornabreen.orhttps://988lifeline.org/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=onebox FIND YOUR FLOWWant to be a guest on FIND YOUR FLOW with Lisa Roche?
