The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 8th study session on Dave Cullen's COLUMBINE. On April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 people and injured 24 more at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. This week, we continue our exploration of Cullen's narrative of the events leading up to the massacre, the motivations of the White killers, and the aftermath of the slaughter. The teen duo apparently had contact with enforcement officers well in advance of the shooting. Last week, we got enough detail for Gus to conclude it was criminally negligent that Harris and Klebold's parents, school officials and local enforcement officers failed to intercept this plot. TWO separate White people found one of Eric Harris's explosive devices in advance of the attack. Each of these two highly intelligent young lads had been suspended from school, a felony arrest record, and both admitted to underage substance use. If these were two black boys, they would have been "pipelined" to prison before they could spell bomb - their parents too. Cullen also detailed the extraordinary hypocrisy with Cassie Bernall's parents choosing to publish a book of lies about their daughter's murder. Evidence and witnesses revealed that Valeen Schnurr was the victim who acknowledged her belief in God, not Cassie. In addition to publishing a bestseller with a debunked title (She Said Yes), Misty Bernall took sabbatical from her job at Lockheed Martin to pen a dishonest book. Lockheed Martin is the local Denver bomb-making factory for the US government (so-called).
