The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 4th study session on Lionel Dahmer's A Father's Story. Gus was quite resistant to reading this book. However, this moment provides a singular opportunity for counter-racist literary scholars. We just concluded our read of Sue Klebold's memoir and an in depth examination of the 1999 Columbine tragedy. The two cowardly, Racist perpetrators of that massacre were infatuated with serial killers and Jeffrey Dahmer specifically. They did a school project on the Wisconsin cannibal. Since we just heard Mrs. Klebold deflect blame and lie for she and her murdering son, Gus thought it would be a great brain exercise to see if Jeffrey Dahmer's pops behaves in a similar manner. Astute readers are asked to compare and contrast these two White memoirs with extreme care. Incidentally, the astronomically successful Netflix series debuted on September 21st of 2022. And just weeks ago, Fox Nation debuted the series: My Son Jeffrey. Gus said last year that it's important that this series of bloodletting was/is being released in sync with the autumn equinox and the coming "halloween" holiday. Last week Lionel paused to deliver a measured retort to charges that his serial killing son is a Racist. He acknowledged that the bulk of Dahmer's victims were black males, but says Jeff just wanted male bodies. Racial classification was irrelevant. It just happened to be that lots of black dudes are poor, vulnerable, and willing to accept the meager cash payouts Jeff used to lure victims. Listeners and Gus found it stunning that Lionel casually accepts that his son is a cannibal, child molesting (raping), alcoholic, serial killer. But admitting that Jeff is a Racist is a bridge too far.
