The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly summit on Neutralizing Workplace Racism 12/20/24 On the cusp of the winter solstice and the pagan rituals of gift-giving, Amazon workers throughout the US went on strike to protest low wages and unsafe work conditions. Just this week, a Senate investigation found that Jeff Bezos's workers were discouraged from seeking medical attention beyond Amazon and that the online behemoth lied to minimize the dangers of their work environment. We heard from a non-white employee who skipped a retirement ceremony for a departing White colleague. Because of his passive aggressive behavior towards her, she concluded that her immediate White supervisor was dissatisfied with her absence. We revisit the logic and consequences regarding attending or avoiding workplace parties that may be after hours (and with alcoholic beverages).
