The Context of White Supremacy (C.O.W.S.) Radio Program welcomes Dr. Donald G. Mathews. A University of North Carolina Professor Emeritus of History, Dr. Mathews's research explores memory and violence - especially the Lynching of black people in the U.S. We'll discuss his book, At the Altar of Lynching: Burning Sam Hose in the American South. Gus found this book while roaming through the University of Washington library. While searching for a book on the lynching of Zachariah Walker, I found Dr. Mathews's work on Sam Hose. The book describes how the protection of White Woman, the threat of black veterans and the preservation of White Supremacy demanded that Sam Hose (Tom Wilkes) be slaughtered. We'll discuss the homoerotic bonding that occurred between White Men who hunted Hose. We'll also discuss White male rape of black females and the consistent refusal of Whites to acknowledge centuries of Racist molestation. We also observed the recent legislation regarding anti lynching.
