The Context of White Supremacy welcomes the return of Dr. Julie M. Stamm. Classified as a White Woman and brandishing a doctorate in anatomy and neurobiology from the Boston University School of Medicine, Dr. Stamm conducted research at the Boston University Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Center and the Psychiatry Neuroimaging Laboratory at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital. We first spoke with Dr. Stamm in 2023 just days after Damar Hamlin was nearly killed on the football field. We discussed her new book, The Brain On Youth Sports: The Science, The Myths & The Future. Gus learned a lot from Dr. Stamm and applied her teachings to future programs and thinking about tackle football and brain health. The recent happenings with CTE research, including a report suggesting that at least 25% of NFL players have this type of brain impairment, motivated Gus to check in with Dr. Stamm one more. Many in the tackle football industry did not view this news with excitement.
