The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Rachel Grashow, PhD. Classified as a White Woman and a Suspected White Supremacist, “Grashow is the director of epidemiological research initiatives and co-investigator of Family Experiences Managing Football Lives (FEM-FL) for the Football Players Health Study at Harvard University. Grashow is also a research scientist at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health.” The last time Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs tussled with Jalen Hurts’ Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, The C.O.W.S. welcomed Dr. Jessica Wallace to discuss her research that shows White coaches, White parents, and White players are more informed about the dangers of concussions than black coaches, parents, and players. Dr. Grashow’s research examines various elements of how tackle football destroys the brain computer as well the ways the System of White Supremacy exploits black football players while protecting the White Tom Bradys on the field. Part of her work specifically examines how black players are funneled to more dangerous positions, and are less likely to be thought of as or given the opportunity to be a “leader." Right on time for the broadcast, the Eagles' defensive back Cooper DeJean intercepted a Mahomes' pass and returned it for a score. Across social media, DeJean's shared nickname, #ExcitingWhites , began trending for the rest of the evening. The moniker highlights DeJean's racial classification as White in contrast with the fact that for decades White football coaches almost exclusively restrict this defensive position to black males. During our discussion, Dr. Grashow repeatedly insisted that White people are ignorant and/or unconscious about what Racism is and how it works. Taking things to the extreme, Dr. Grashow suggested that Whites at Harvard aren't as smart as Gus T. and that we shouldn't "hand over" power to White dominated institutions.
