He is also a co-founder of the San Francisco Exposure Gallery, a non-profit venue for issue-based documentary photography that opened in March of 2003. He received the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the Philippine revolution, the World Press Photo award for news picture stories and the SPJ distinguished service award.
