The Caregivers Path to Soul Care and Self-Healing with Dr. Edward Smink

from Navigating Cancer TOGETHER · host Talaya, On the Other Side

Dr. Edward Smink Ph.D. defended his doctoral thesis, “Thresholds of Afflictions: The Heroic Journey of Healing,” at Pacifica Graduate Institute in May of 2010 and graduated with a Ph.D. in Philosophy with an emphasis in Depth Psychology. His dissertation hallmarks what Dr. Smink considers a sacred trust of his over forty years of experience in healthcare as a registered nurse, crisis and pastoral counselor, executive leader, facilitator of mission, ethics, spirituality, value and leadership formation, and a leader and promoter of community health. Dr. Smink likes to claim that along with his academic credentials, he has learned much as a caregiver from his experience with colleagues who care for others and from those who needed his services. His book The Soul of Caregiving, A Caregiver’s Guide to Healing and Transformation is an outcome of his dissertation and his contribution to caregivers and the community. ✨A few highlights from the show: 1. Health care is a spiritual practice. 2. Being wounded means not having all of the answers. 3. Compassion fatigue has to do with something we love to do. 📘Follow and learn more about Dr. Smink at: Website: https://soulofcaregiving.com/ Book: https://soulofcaregiving.com/books Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/soulofcaregiving/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/edwardmphd 🦄About Me: In 2011, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, out of the blue. I did not have any prior health concerns or issues. Fast forward, the dreaded cancer diagnosis opened my eyes, introduced me to my purpose, and lead me to where I am today. As a Cancer Doula, I use my 11 years of experience with cancer to support and guide others diagnosed with cancer. Many people are not familiar with what a cancer doula is. Think of me as a personal patient advocate.
