The Catholic Morning Show - 06/10/2026

from The Catholic Morning Show · host Deacon Mark Campbell, Alexia Baker, John Gaffney, J. Stephen Russell

The Catholic Morning Show opens with a reminder of an upcoming community prayer event: join Catholic Des Moines police officers on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 1:30 PM at the Des Moines Police Department (25 East First Street, Des Moines) for a Rosary and Litany of the Sacred Heart for the State of Iowa, honoring city leaders, police officers, firefighters, EMS, medical personnel, and clergy. In the first interview, John Gaffney, Director of Faith Formation for the Diocese of Des Moines, walks listeners through the diocese's historic decision to move confirmation from tenth grade to sixth grade. Initiated by a question from Bishop Johnson, the change emerged from an extensive discernment process involving clergy, laity, parents, and current confirmation candidates from across the diocese — rural, suburban, and urban. The new model centers on a discipleship pathway with three phases: belonging and identity, encounter with Jesus and the Holy Spirit through Scripture and retreat, and mission readiness. Critically, the process includes a parent formation component, equipping families to serve as the domestic church. The Diocese is partnering with Halo, FORMED, and Our Sunday Visitor's Real + True program to resource both candidates and parents. Parish workshops will begin in the fall. Confirmation sponsors are also being given dedicated resources for the journey. Learn More at https://www.dmdiocese.org/ministries-and-faith-formation/youth-ministry/confirmation. In the second interview, author and translator J. Stephen Russell introduces Angel of the Eucharist, his English translation of the collected writings and memoir of Marie Estelle Harpin (1814–1841), a young French seamstress whose extraordinary love for Christ in the Eucharist transformed her life and village. Never before translated into English, the book is now available through Angelico Press and Amazon. Russell, a retired professor of medieval literature, shares striking quotes from Marie Estelle's writings and reflects on how her relatable humanity — her love of dancing, pretty clothes she couldn't afford, and her very real temptations — makes her a compelling model of Catholic femininity for women of all ages today. Also mentioned: the EWTN live stream of the Consecration of the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus takes place June 11, 2026 at 3:00 PM Central Time from the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe in Orlando, and can also be accessed through the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe website. 🔗 Iowa Catholic Radio: IowaCatholicRadio.com 🔗 Angel of the Eucharist on Amazon: Amazon.com 🔗 Angelico Press: AngelicoPressBooks.com 🔗 FORMED: FORMED.org 🔗 Halo App: HaloApp.com #CatholicMorningShow #IowaCatholicRadio #CatholicConfirmation #DiscipleshipPathway #DiocesOfDesMoines #Sacraments #CatholicYouth #DomesticChurch #EucharisticDevotion #AngelOfTheEucharist #MarieEstelleHarpin #CatholicSaints #CatholicWomen #SacredHeart #CatholicFaith #CatholicPodcast #CatholicRadio Credits: Produced, Edited, and Mixed by Ayden Pugh, Alexia Baker, and Brady Grimm. ENJOYING THE SHOW?
