The Chatham Ferryman

from Lighthouse Logs — Fexingo Horror · host Fexingo

November 1998. Luna drives through Chatham, Massachusetts on the way to a lighthouse interview and stops at a diner called The Rusty Hook. The waitress tells her about a local man named Elias Vickery who has been operating the ferry across Stage Harbor since before anyone can remember. In the fog of the past few nights, passengers have reported seeing someone standing on the water beside the boat — not in a wetsuit, not on a buoy, just standing there in the chop, watching. Two nights ago, a woman named Grace Moran rode the ferry at 11:30 PM and swore the figure looked like her own son who drowned in 1982. She tried to jump. The ferryman held her back. When she turned to thank him, he was gone. The ferry was halfway across the channel, drifting with no one at the tiller. Grace found the boat moored at the east dock with her purse on the bench and the engine still running. No sign of Elias. The Coast Guard searched for three days. Nothing. No body, no boat in their logs — they don't even have a record of a ferry licensed to that crossing. But last night the fog came back, and Luna can hear something from the keeper's quarters of the Chatham Light: a low, hollow gonging against the pilings, like a skiff bumping the dock. And when she looks down through the mist, there is a shape on the water, standing perfectly still where the channel runs deep. #TheChathamFerryman #EliasVickery #StageHarbor #ChathamMassachusetts #November1998 #TheRustyHook #Disappearedferryman #Lighthouseghost #Drownedson #Foghorror #NewEnglandhaunting #Hollowgong #Standingshape #Ferryoftherisen #LighthouseLogs #FexingoHorror #HorrorPodcast #Lunanarrates #MaritimeHorror #NauticalTales Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
