A church can prize gifted speech, deep knowledge and costly sacrifice while missing what matters most. In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul says every gift becomes empty without love, which chooses another person’s good and rejoices in God’s truth. Christ loved His people this way first, patiently persevering all the way to the cross. Church life exposes lingering self-centredness, but Christ’s grace becomes visible as members reject resentment, forgive quickly and persevere through disappointment.
