The Churches Influence In The World

from Victory Church Jbay · host Louis Els

Matthew 5: 14-16, You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.Influence is the capacity to affect someone's character development or behaviour to bring about change, either for good or bad (1 Timothy 3:15). We are called to be the light, not to hide our light, and to do good works.Matthew 5:13, You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.Just as salt causes a reaction and brings flavor to food, so our lives should cause a reaction and influence others. We read about this in Matthew 5:13 which speaks of seasoning. Seasoning is important because it draws out the flavor and the best out of people. As Christians and the salt of the earth, we should draw the best out of our community. Secondly, salt is used for preservation. As believers, we are here to preserve truth and Kingdom culture. Thirdly, salt is a binding agent. We should have a connecting effect where we draw people to God and the Kingdom. We are on the earth to present and represent. Jesus is our example of this as He didn’t come to earth to do His own thing. He came to represent, reflect, and reproduce the will, way, and work of the Father (John 5:19).
