I'm Lawrence Winterman. Yesterday in our podcast, I decided to take the oath to the Constitution of the United States of America because I realized as a citizen, I've never actually taken the oath to the Constitution before. What I realized while doing it was, there's not actually an oath for citizens, natural born citizens of the United States, to take an oath to. So I've gone ahead and added a line to the existing oath, specifically for natural born citizens.
And I wanted to go ahead and take that oath today. And then I'm gonna post it with the text and I'm gonna challenge some friends of mine to go ahead and do the same thing, to record themselves taking the oath to the Constitution, maybe having other people take the oath to the Constitution with them and posting it online and challenging even more people to do it. After the protests, I think this is a really important way to demonstrate that we are part of a bigger movement and that it is founded on and centered on the fundamental document of our country, the operating system that makes this country work. So here I go.
I've got my pocket constitution here. You get these on Barnes & Noble for 10 bucks. If you don't have your pocket constitution, you can use a Bible, a Quran, the Jewish Bible, any religious text, anything that is meaningful to you can be used to take the oath to the Constitution on. I'm gonna go ahead and be a little bit circular here and take the oath to the Constitution on the Constitution because this is a book that I revere.
So here we go. I've got my constitution in my left hand. I'm gonna raise my right hand. I, Lawrence Winterman, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same, that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the rights and responsibilities afforded to me as a citizen of the United States of America, so help me God.
It feels cool to do that. It feels like a weight has been lifted because it's really clear that what we need to do in this moment, in this country, is to reaffirm our commitment to our fundamental document. And then we need to get together and organize and protest more and figure out the next steps. But for right now, I'm challenging you to take the citizens oath to the Constitution of the United States.
Thanks a lot.
