Jonah walked into that massive city and preached eight words: Forty days more and Nineveh shall be overthrown. No explanation. No call to repentance. No offer of mercy.And Nineveh believed. From the greatest to the least, they put on sackcloth. The king rose from his throne, stripped off his robes, and sat in ashes. The most wicked city on earth repented at eight words from a reluctant prophet.Jesus points to this story and says: The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it. Because they repented at the preaching of Jonah.
