from Dano and Mason

http://joy.org.au/danoandmason/wp-content/uploads/sites/329/2018/08/111.mp3 This week the role of Dano will be played by the one and only Benjamin Norris. We miss you Dano, but who doesn’t love a bit of Ben? Dano (Ben) & Mason had director Sue Thomson and the always inspiring Michelle Brooker in the studio to give us the low down on Sue’s film premiere of The Coming Back Out Ball Movie (try saying that five times fast). This documentary has been chosen to close the Melbourne International Film Festival this weekend, so tune in to hear more about what promises to be a fascinating and emotional look into the lives of our LGBTQIA+ elders.  P.S. How rad is it that MIFF chose to highlight an LGBTIQA+ film by making it part of the closing night celebration? Here’s more on The Coming Back Out Ball Movie from the film buffs: “In what is set to be one of the most celebratory conclusions to the festival in years, MIFF will screen The Coming Back Out Ball Movie to bring the festival to a close. Directed by Sue Thomson and supported through the MIFF Premiere Fund, The Coming Back Out Ball Movie is a triumphant and life-affirming love letter to Australia’s original fighters for queer equality – a film that will have audiences laughing, crying and ready to dance, darling” LGBTQIA+ seniors have been pioneers in many ways, beginning the fight for equality in an era when being queer could land you in jail, lose you your job or worse. But as they have aged, some started going back into the closet in nursing homes or when accessing aged-care services, owing to feeling unsafe in these environments. In the middle of Australia’s divisive marriage equality vote, Melbourne hosted a gala event to honour and celebrate its LGBTQIA+ elders. These are their stories. This film will close the festival. It’s on at 1.30pm and 7.15pm on Sunday 19 August at ACMI. Tickets are selling fast. Check out info here, Tickets still available for Sunday 19th Listen to Dano and Mason LIVE- Every Thursday 4:00-6:30PM The post The Coming Back Out Ball Movie appeared first on Dano and Mason.
