Date: 10.01.24 Speaker: Kris Martens Texts: Luke 10:25-37 Title: The Compassionate Eye Summary: The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. Psalm 103:8 The parable of the ?good Samaritan? is one of Jesus? most famous, most embraced & most controversial. It puts flesh & blood on the greatest commandments: to love God and love our neighbours. And in doing so, challenges the religious and the well-intentioned: those with big heads - big hearts & big hands. In the parable, Jesus emphasizes that both Gospel messaging (preaching & teaching) & Gospel neighbouring (mercy & justice) are essential to this new way of living. May we embrace His call and his challenge to proclaim the spiritual reality of Jesus - engaging the minds of our neighbours, and to do so with radical compassion - meeting the physical needs of our neighbours, near & far. And may we see ourselves as the broken & needy, and Jesus as the Great Samaritan - who at great cost, reconciled us through the cross.
