In 1994, Farah Fratta was shot and killed in her garage by a gunman waiting in ambush as she returned home. The murder was orchestrated by her husband, Robert Fratta, a police officer who hired two men for $1,000 and a handgun to resolve a bitter divorce and child custody dispute. Following decades of legal appeals and retrials, Robert and his co-conspirators were sentenced to death, with Robert eventually being executed in early 2023.
