The Cost of Correction

When you see the word “upgrade,” you’re simply invited to help me make the sacred positively contagious...thank you in advance for becoming a free or paid subscriber.Ever notice that telling the truth doesn’t always win applause?Oh you can try to help, offer direction, give perspective—and suddenly you’re the villain in somebody else’s group chat.You didn’t do anything wrong;you just held up a mirror.And some folks would rather fight the mirror than face the mess.That’s what Proverbs 9 : 7 is saying:“Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults; whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.”Did you catch how it dropped that word “whoever” twice? That means you can’t take it personal.You can’t challenge foolishness without catching some fallout.That’s part of leadership, part of love, part of life.💢 The Casualties of CallingWhen you step up to lead, you also sign up to be misunderstood.Wisdom costs more than comfort.Mockers don’t hate you because you’re wrong—they hate you because your words expose what’s off…WITHIN THEM!!!Talk about meeting somebody that’s comfortable with their demons and they get mad at you for trying to cast them out!The proverb divides two kinds of people:* Mockers who take correction as an attack.* Learners who take correction as a gift.The first repeat the same lesson on loop,failing the test over and over because they refuse to be taught.The second graduate from the same pain others keep repeating.So when you catch backlash for speaking truth,don’t let it break you—let it confirm you… now I didn’t say that let it comfort you because sometimes confirmation will take the place of comfort when the road is rocky and the patch is rough.You’re bumping into resistance because you’re moving the needle.🧭 Rulez Regarding ‘Rebuke’Now, this isn’t a pass for harsh or abusive leadership.Correction done without compassion becomes control.But when it’s rooted in love and integrity,rebuke refines.It’s God’s way of tuning our character,like feedback in a soundcheck that sharpens the mix.So before we correct others, let’s make sure we’re also correct-able.That’s how wisdom stays humble and effective.💥 RememberTruth has a cost, but silence has a consequence.If correction gets you criticized,remember—Jesus got crucified for telling the truth in love.PrayerMake me wise enough to give and receive correction well.Today’s ChallengeBefore the day ends, reach out to someone you trust either in text, phone or in person,“What’s one thing you see in me that needs work?”Then—listen.
