The COVID-19 Infodemic - Are We Doing Enough to Tackle Misinformation?

from Health & Living · host BFM Media

Technology, social media and messaging apps have played an incredibly crucial role in keeping all of us connected and updated throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. But unfortunately it has also created a space where misinformation about the virus, the disease, and now the vaccine, spreads easily. The World Health Organisation has even described it as an “infodemic”. Are we doing enough to address this parallel pandemic that we are facing? We take a look at how misinformation has affected our lives, especially public health strategies, and whether laws and regulations to curb fake news is the way forward, together with Dr Wan Puspa Melati Wan Halim, Senior Lecturer in Social Psychology from Taylor’s University.
