The Crime of Heartless Religion // John 5:1-17

This morning we come to a well known story of Jesus healing a man who had been invalid for 38 years. But as we will see, this miraculous healing is not the main focus of the narrative. Because Jesus healed this man on a Sabbath, the Jews accused Jesus of committing the crime of Sabbath breaking but in actuality, Jesus was healing the man on the Sabbath to reveal their crime of heartless religion. Through this story we are all called to examine ourselves to see that our own faith is not of the pedigree of heartless, lifeless, and Christless religion.
