The Cryptid Conspiracy

from Fable’s Adventures: Short Stories & 10-Minute Audio Fiction · host Mundell Designs LLC

Adrian has photographic memory and works cataloging the Cryptid Museum's basement exhibits. When his perfect recall catches inconsistencies—the Yeti display is synthetically aged despite records claiming authenticity—Adrian investigates. With research assistant Elena, he breaks into the museum's sealed 1889 research library and discovers journals revealing a horrifying truth: cryptids aren't animals that evaded science. They're something else. Something ancient that's always been watching, waiting for humans to remember them. The curator, Dr. Voss, has been systematically replacing authentic exhibits with forgeries—not to fool visitors, but to convince the creatures themselves they've been forgotten. But as Adrian escapes with the evidence, he realizes Elena's reflection in the glass cases has been watching him in real-time, not delayed like normal reflections. The creatures aren't the only ones who need convincing. Now Adrian must figure out what these watching entities want—and whether his colleague was ever really his friend.A psychological horror story for ages 16+ about neurodivergent pattern recognition, ancient conspiracies, and discovering that some things never stopped watching us—they're just waiting for us to remember.Themes: Psychological horror and paranoia, cryptids as ancient watchers, photographic memory and neurodivergent protagonist, conspiracy and hidden truth, reflections and reality questioning, betrayal and trust, things that watch from shadows, being observed by something otherContent Warning: MATURE CONTENT (16+).
