It was in 1947 when Dr. Ray Curtis was discharged from the Army and brought his expertise in hand surgery and reconstruction to MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.Seventy-five years later, the Curtis National Hand Center is the only trauma designated center in the state for the hand and upper extremity, and the only Congressionally designated hand center in the United States.
