Where's Michael Bend? Alright, I've been gone for a while, I apologize. Had some issues going on, one of them technical, that just got fixed, the other wasn't feeling good and just stuff. But I'm back.
You're listening to the Daily Grateful, I was going to change the name of this show today. I was out with my son Zack today and I'm just going to tell you, it was, this thing just came upon me, you know, dad what are you going to do the rest of the day? And I said, well I've got to do this podcast, he goes, oh good, because the part that I needed for my thingy that I, it's technical, trust me. A thing in the jog didn't work and I had to order a new thing to jig to go into the thing to jog and now you can hear me, it's, I love technology, except for when it breaks.
But after that, I said, you know what, I've got going today and this what? I've been planning this and the fact that I've been planning this, the very fact that I've been planning this has made me say, alright, I need to change the name of this podcast from the Daily Grateful to the pathetic life that I am now living, alright? Because I've been planning and today I absolutely executed, but I told Zack that I was doing this and he goes, oh yeah, sounds exciting. And the thing I was going to do that I did was clean out my sock drawer.
Yeah, my sock drawer, by the way, I've not cleaned out the sock drawer once, not even once in the 16 years that I've lived in this house and I bought that dresser and I made the top drawer the sock and underwear drawer. And you know what happened is you get socks and you just keep, it's soon at one point there was no room for the underwear. So the second drawer became the underwear drawer and the top drawer became the sock drawer and I bought new socks and they wouldn't fit in the sock drawer. Yeah, this is what it comes to you ladies and gentlemen.
This is what it is all these years, all of my experiences, meeting celebrities, having really cool kids, having really cool grandkids, all this stuff. And what am I, you know, all in a footer, I have to, this is what it's all come down to, I have to clean my sock drawer after 16 years. I went 16 years, well, cleaning the sock drawer and today was the day and I planned it. I said, how am I going to do this?
Am I going to do a garbage bag? Oh yeah, that's what I'll do, I'll do a garbage bag. And then last night I went out to the laundry room to look for garbage bags and the only garbage bags I have were these real giant ones that I used for waking up leaves. I said, I don't have any things to throw away that doesn't work.
So I said, okay, because I don't use trash bags. I'm one of these people that do not use trash bags because I, and I don't produce a lot of waste. That's another story. Let's get back to my pathetic life.
And the fact that I had like two days worth of planning going into cleaning my sock drawer. So I went and took the garbage can out of the second bathroom and I had emptied it on garbage day, just the other day. So it was empty, it was totally empty. I said, I'm going to fill it up with socks that I have not seen in years.
So I get home and I said, do I need to take a nap? No, I'm ready. I'm ready to go. I'm ready to do.
And I'm sitting there saying, this is your big plans for the day cleaning out the sock drawer. You've planned it for two days and you're going, okay. So I go in there and I open up the drawer and I realize I don't have enough light. I do not have enough light to totally see.
So what do I do? I grab a little portable battery operated lights. I'm on top of the dresser, pointed down there, click there and all this. I can see everything in my sock drawer.
So I just start indiscriminately throwing out every sock that's in the drawer because all my other socks, my new socks can't fit in the drawer. I have them out in the laundry room. So I said, where I've been keeping them instead of putting them in the drawer, which is why I need to clean the drawer. Are you even listening to this?
Should you be? I don't know. Anyway, man, is this the worst podcast ever? Let me I have to analyze this.
I got to find the podcast handbook. Is this it? Hang on a second. Definition of worst podcast ever page 430.
A really bad podcast would be talking about reorganizing your sock drawer. Well, if I, anyhow, I start throwing away all the socks in there. And then all of a sudden in all of that, what was under all of the socks? Well, there was one thing under all the socks that I've been looking for for at least two years, probably closer to three, maybe even four.
It was a VHS video. It was a VHS tape that my two oldest sons and I made in 1987, I think, 88. I'm not sure. Maybe maybe 1990.
I don't know at Disney World at what was then MGM Studios. It's now called Hollywood Studios. And for $25, I remember it was a lot of money, but I didn't care. You could go in and be in an episode of Star Trek.
And at the end of it, you would get a VHS copy of the tape and you would have a show. And I remember we went in there. Me and the boys went in there. And they put us in all of these, I was the captain and Tyler was the navigator and Kyle was the first officer.
And they put us in this room that was gray, as I recall. And they would say, you know, look this way and read everything that's on these cue cards, which I did. We were in there very long. We were in there like five minutes doing this.
Look this way. And then act surprised and look, then hold this up and say this. And you know, so we did all none of it made sense. Absolutely none of it made sense.
And we did not see the finished copy. We came out of there. They handed us the VHS tape of our Star Trek episode, which we could not watch until we got home and we got home. And it was movie magic happening right there.
First off, we're in a room being interviewed by Captain Kirk and Gene Roddenberry. And you see, you see William Shatner putting his hand on my knee while he's talking to me. And I mean, it was just really weird. And Spock was in there too, as I recall.
I've not seen this thing in 100 years. And then we're in this episode where, you know, and it's all narrated and everything. We're the captain and the first officer were off at something. And I was the fill in captain and Kyle was the first officer and Tyler was the navigator.
And we just had all these, you know, we ran into Klingons. And it was pretty cool. I threatened to blow up their ship with a photon detonator, which was not really a photon detonator. Anyway, I found this and I have to take it to the Tampa Bay Technology Center.
And I have to have it digitized. And when I do, I'm going to post it on someplace. I don't, I've got to get it out there. My kids have got to see this.
It's absolutely incredible. So I am so grateful that I have such a boring dull life that I put two days of effort into cleaning out my damn sock drawer. And I now have a treasure that I found that's been in there forever. I don't have a VHS tape machine play on, but my daughter does and I'm going to get it from her and I'm going to watch it.
And then I'm going to take it and have it digitized. So then I have it forever on the cloud in the cloud so I can share it with everybody. Man, I got to tell you. Sometimes you have all these really bad feelings about your life.
I've been having those lately technical problems in the studio, which I'm not supposed to have, not feeling great, you know, just questioning my very existence. And then explaining to my son today that my big activity was cleaning out the sock drawer. I'm saying, what a pathetic life until I cleaned out the sock drawer and I find a treasure. Oh man, I am so grateful.
It was always something to be grateful about. I didn't feel that way when I was going into this thing, you know, as a daily grateful, nah, daily pathetic. No, daily grateful. I found a treasure.
See you tomorrow. See you tomorrow.
