The Dameron Matter
from Detectives on the Air · host OTR.FM Network
Originally Aired: April 21, 1953Johnny Dollar #159, "The Dameron Matter," Johnny Dollar arrives in San Francisco just ten hours after a violent heist at the National Savings and Loan Company. Lieutenant Benson and Sergeant Friedman have already picked up Bernie Manners, a two-time loser with a lengthy criminal record, after the dying watchman, Henry Fuller, identified him from police mugshots as one of four armed robbers. The holdup netted sixty-five thousand dollars, and Fuller's deathbed statement provides the damning evidence needed to hold Manners.Despite hours of relentless interrogation, Bernie Manners refuses to crack. He denies any involvement in the robbery and won't name his accomplices, insisting he was home sleeping when the crime occurred. Dollar observes as Benson and Friedman hammer away at the suspect, methodically wearing him down. The tension builds as the investigators press for answers about the other three men involved in the deadly heist, while Bernie maintains his stonewalling silence until a critical phone call from the crime lab changes everything.
