Also known as the dark ages the Middle Ages of the 5th century to the 15th century are known in history as some of the cruelest and harshest times for punishment. Many times, people would confess to crimes they did not commit just so that the pain would stop. Torturing someone was not created during this time period, but many could argue that it was perfected in this era.
