The Day Of Pentecost

from John Wasserman Podcast · host John Wasserman

The day of Pentecost was marked by wind and fire. It was, as on the day when the Law was given on Mount Sinai, a sign of the presence of angels. On that day angels were permanently assigned to the apostles. This day marked the end of the dispensation of the Law where the Spirit only occasionally came upon individuals as well as the beginning of the New Testament where the Spirit abides within, never to leave. The city of God, the New Jerusalem (the Church) was formed on this day. The whole of the Old Testament was showing precedents of and preparation for the eventual outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the recognizable change that people underwent because of the influence of the Spirit, for instance Joel 2, the anointing of leaders like Joseph, Joshua, Gideon, Samson, Daniel, the Judges, Saul and David. The Holy Spirit was hovering over formless, void and dark creation to create even as He did in the womb of Mary with the incubation of the Christ inside of her. The same happened on the day of Pentecost with the formation of the Church. The Holy Spirit is also known as the life-giving breath of God. He strives with people, convincing, leading, convicting and influencing them to turn to Jesus. The world cannot receive the Holy Spirit, it is only for those whose psyche, mind, actions and walk (spiritual leprosy) have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus. We are a kingdom of priests with authority because of the Holy Spirit’s anointing. It is time for creativity, inventions, entrepreneurship and business to be birthed in the Church because of the Holy Spirit’s anointing. The wind of the Spirit brings inspiration, moves, drives, and influences us. The Holy Spirit is described in the Bible as fire, zeal, comfort, purification, water, rain, rivers, pools, dew, a dove, wine, our clothing, the earnest of God, our comfort, strength, advocate and a seal. The Holy Spirit is a person with feelings and senses. We have a living relationship with Him and need to be constant sensitive to Him.
