The Deadliest Creature in the Deep | Horror Movie Review

Aquarium of the Dead (2021) is exactly what you expect when The Asylum decides to tackle underwater reanimation. Serving as the spiritual third entry in their Zoombies trilogy (following Zoombies and Zoombies 2), this micro-budget creature feature trades the wildlife park for the "Shining Sea Aquarium" and delivers pure, unadulterated Z-grade camp. The SetupThe chaos kicks off due to a bad batch of epinephrine (the same tainted stuff from the Eden Wildlife Zoo in the previous films). When a resident octopus goes into cardiac arrest during a routine tagging procedure, the drug reanimates it into a tentacled patient zero. The zombie octopus escapes into the ventilation shafts, spreading its contaminated slime throughout the facility. Before you know it, the entire aquarium goes into automated lockdown, trapping a group of staff, scientists, and a corrupt politician inside with an entire roster of undead marine life. The Rogues' Gallery of Undead Aquatic LifeBecause it’s an Asylum production, the creature roster relies heavily on frantic digital effects and hilariously questionable physics:The Zombie Octopus: The mastermind lurking in the air ducts and elevator shafts. The Killer Walrus: Easily one of the most absurd highlights, utilizing its tusks to gore an unsuspecting tourist. Zombie Spider Crabs & Crocodiles: Reusing some digital assets to swarm the hallways. The Starfish: Look closely and you might spot a few dollar-store plastic starfish that appear to be attached to the actors with sheer willpower (and tape). Zombie Sharks & Dolphins: Flopping around on dry land or shattering glass panels to claim victims. Cast & CrewVivica A. Fox stars as Eddie "Clu" Cluwirth, the no-nonsense head of security who spends a good chunk of the movie barking orders over a walkie-talkie before trying to take down an octopus with an axe. Eva Ceja as Miranda Riley, the aquarium scientist trying to navigate the lockdown. D.C. Douglas as Daniel Hanley, the sketchy coworker harboring a few secrets about how the outbreak started.
