The BOYCOTTS AND BOOT STRAPS - Why Are Some People Upset At Black People For Investing In Ourselves?

from Deron Harris Podcast

In this episode of the podcast, I dive into a significant shift I'm noticing within our Black communities. As we begin to invest in ourselves, our businesses, our neighborhoods, and our children, I'm seeing a backlash from non-Black store owners who have historically profited from our communities. Many of these businesses are now struggling as we choose to support our own. I discuss the importance of mental health and how our proactive approach to self-investment is helping us cope with the challenges we face. I highlight the frustration of being treated poorly in establishments that have long exploited us, and how this has led to a collective decision to turn inward and support one another. Throughout the episode, I address the negative narratives that have been perpetuated about Black people and how we are reclaiming our power by building our own businesses across various sectors. I share my observations from Chicago, where neighborhoods like Hyde Park and Bronzeville exemplify Black excellence and resilience. I emphasize that we no longer need to tolerate disrespect from those who do not value us. It's time for us to stand firm in our communities, support each other, and reject businesses that do not treat us with the respect we deserve. I encourage my listeners to embrace those who show us kindness and to run out those who do not. Ultimately, this episode is a call to action for Black folks to hustle, invest in ourselves, and not let anyone stand in our way. Let's continue to uplift our communities and celebrate our progress. Thank you for tuning in, and remember to keep pushing forward!
